So, I know I never really make too many journal entries, but oh. my. gosh.

Last night, as I was about ready to get started on some homework, (with a facebook tab open? yeah right) I noticed that a friend of mine had posted something to my wall, timeline, whatever,  on facebook.
It read:

"ASHLEY
Your Miyazaki comic got reblogged by an artist I really APPRECIATE on TUMBLR and I am BURSTING WITH HAPPY FOR YOU!! ; v ; "

(Comic she's talking about: fav.me/d4qlrga)

I'm fairly new to tumblr, and nowhere near popular, so the things that I post, including my artwork, never really get much attention. I doesn't really bother me, but I mean, it is sort of every artists dream to really get their art out there and seen by an audience, so this made me incredibly happy and excited! An artist who my artist-friend really respects reblogged my work?? That's awesome! I was a little be confused though, since it had not shown up on my blog that anyone had reblogged that post, but my tumblr has a tendency/glitch/something where it won't always notify me when my stuff gets reblogged, so I wasn't that surprised, and asked my friend for a link to the girl's tumblr so that I could check it out. She did, and as I looked at my artwork on this girl's amazing art blog (seriously, it's great. go check it out! crookednostalgia.tumblr.com/ ) something caught my eye. The NOTES. I had to do a double take. Like, five times. My comic had 2,379 notes! (which, for non-tumblr people, is the number of people who have either saved it to their favorites, or re-blogged it as a post onto their own blogs.)

I couldn't believe it! Heck, I'm still having trouble believing it! The tumblr post I made of my comic has probably about 9-12 notes. This girl, the owner of the blog linked above, had found my comic here on my deviantArt account, and posted it to her blog with a link back to my dA page, which is why I had no idea that any of this was even happening until my friend notified me! I would have eventually figured out that something was up, because since my dA page was linked in the poster's comment, my page-views suddenly took a unexpected through the roof last night! (The notes keep growing and are now over 6,000!)

*But all freaking out and excitement aside:

I am so incredibly grateful to the fact that my art has been seen by and impacted THAT many people in  such a short amount of time- I've only dreamed. This happening has really inspired me, and has strengthened my drive to to follow my heart and my passion into pursuing a profession in the art field. I know I'm where I belong. I want nothing more than to positively impact the lives of others with my art- to really make something that is thought-provoking, memorable, or even life changing to someone, somewhere in the world. It's such a beautiful thing isn't it? To be able to impact a life? We are always told in school to think about our roles in the world as artists- to think about the potential that we have, the kind of impact that we can make- to always make our projects with the thought that the world is our intended audience, and not just the class and the professor that we are doing the assignment for. But it is  hard to think in that mindset, or to think that you carry all of this potential, when the art that you put out into the world has hardly been noticed. Now, having really seen what kind of potential impact my artwork can have, I feel that I will approach my assignments from a much more serious and insightful point of view- put more thought and care into each work that I make, because they really can reach people, and through them, I really can make an impact on the world.

To everyone who has liked or reblogged my comic - although you may not see this-, and to crookednostalgia for posting it, I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. For what this experience has made me realize, I am forever grateful.
